Scripture Learning Guide "God's Word in My Heart" - Valentine's Day Special!

Review and Giveaway!
I think it's very important that my children memorize scripture starting from when they are young.  I think that the Word stays with you, even if it's just a block in the foundation of who you are.

Up until now we have been memorizing Psalm 23 (The Lord is my shepherd...) and it's going well, but all I do is write the verse on a card and every day in school I review the verse with my kids.  And it gets a little boring.  But I hadn't found anything else that wasn't a huge addition to our already busy school day.

So when I saw the opportunity to preview the book God's Word in My Heart: A scripture learning guide with memory verses by Jenn Thorson  I jumped at the chance!

It comes in
  • KJV (King James Version)
  • NASB (New American Standard)
  • Variety (ESV, NIV 1984, NASB, NKJV
I chose the King James Version but I have a 4 and 6 year old and I sometimes switch the translation to English Standard Version if the language flows a little better.

Right away I liked that it was presented with the idea that it's never too early to start learning God's word. There are ideas for babies on up to highschoolers.  I also identified with the statement that said "I'm not a naturally crafty or imaginative person; many times I take the simple approach to life."  but the book has "Scripture memory ideas that suit a wide range of personalities."
I've found this to be true and have incorporated some of those simple, yet fun ideas into our school.  Just little things that aren't a huge time commitment but that make a big difference in how receptive my kids are to going over their verses and how well they remember them.

There are links to coloring pages, ideas for praise songs to accompany the verse you are memorizing and suggestions for other books and resources to help you. Like I quoted earlier, it really is set up for a wide range of personalities.  You can make it as simple or as detailed as you like.  I found that using just a few of the suggestions made such a big difference and I'm looking forward to utilizing some of the ideas in our school.  They could very easily be used outside of a homeschool setting as well.  It only takes a few minutes to work on  :)

Some of the ideas are available at The Purposeful Mom but I found it extremely helpful to have everything compiled in one spot.  I also printed mine out into a little booklet and put it in my school planner. That way I can jot down notes and easily refer to the ideas and the verse we are using.

Along with the ideas for teaching scripture to your children is a list of ABC Bible Verses.  I joined this up with my preschooler's Letter of the Week.  So while we were working on the letter O, we were also learning the verse from Daniel 9:19 -  O Lord, Hear; O Lord, Forgive; O Lord, Hearken and do.  It worked out so nicely!

If you are looking for an easy way to introduce God's Word to your children you will find this book very helpful.  You can get your copy for $1.99  for one day only on February 14! The next day the price goes back up to $3.99.
I will earn a portion of the sale for products purchased through the links on my page.  Thank you for your support!

In Addition:
I found some fun websites to add to what's in the book.
I used free, printable Flash Cards and entered in portions of our verse on the front side of the cards (leaving the back blank). My older daughter, who can read, can put it together as the memory verse puzzle that was suggested and I can also use it in some of the other games found in the book. .
I also found this website for Copy Work.  I wanted one that said "Praise the Lord!" and I ran across this website.  But the part I was super impressed with is that you can choose the style of print or cursive and you can also change the text.  So even if I don't find the word or phrase I want, I can choose a picture and change the text to what I want!  And, we are learning cursive early, and it's very hard to find simple cursive copy-work so this website makes me want to jump for joy!  :D

Thank you for checking out the review.  I hope you find it helpful and accurate!  Let me know if you have any questions :)

(I received a copy of the above mentioned product to help facilitate the writing of a frank and honest review.  A positive review is not guaranteed.  All opinions are my own.  Your results and opinions may vary.)

Did you miss the special price of $1.99?  You can still enter to win a copy!  And if you buy the book and end up as the winner, the cost of the book will be reimbursed!
